Recipe: Raisin Bran Bread (Bread Machine)

I love toasted Raisin Bread so I looked through my favourite bread machine cookbook, The Bread Machine Baker, for a recipe and found one.  This recipe uses Raisin Bran cereal and I happened to have some Raisin Bran Crunch cereal in the pantry because I love it sooo much.  I gotta figure out how to make that cereal from scratch one day.

Like all bread machine recipes are, this was very simple to make and filled the house with wonderful fresh bread smells.  This would be a nice bread to make when company is visiting or for an afterschool snack toasted with peanut butter.  The bread has a wonderful cinnamon flavour and is dense enough for the toaster.

RAISIN BRAN BREAD
from The Bread Machine Baker

2 teaspoons or 1/2 package of yeast
2 cups bread flour
1 cup Raisin Bran cereal (I used Raisin Bran Crunch cereal)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
4 Tablespoons brown sugar
2 Tablespoons butter
1 cup water or milk (I used whole milk)

Add all ingredients to the machine in the order listed.  Choose either regular or light crust (depending on your preference) and push "Start".

Enjoy!

  1. Your blog is lovely. I'll be a follower now. :)

Yum! That bread looks good. I don't have a bread machine -- your recipes make me wonder if I should get one! I love all the great excerpts from "The Children's Hour". Reminds me of my childhood.

  2. I purchased my bread machine at a thrift shop for $2 but you can get them cheap on Craig's List or free through Freecyle. It's been wonderful for our busy family. I love to put a loaf in before we run errands and come home to the smell of fresh bread :)

I'm so flattered you enjoyed my blog as yours is so lovely. We love to eat good food and good books at our house too :)

  3. We had a bread machine growing up, I think I need to get that from my mom. She never uses it. And do you actually own that book? Artwork from old chidren's books is always just so amazing to me.

  4. Well that one looks like a winner! I might have to get that recipe book, I am running out of the ones in my book, LOL.

Buttermilk would be lovely, it's true! One woman who reviewed the onion buns said she used fresh mashed potatoes instead of the flakes but they were almost too moist. You probably did not do anything wrong with your apple pie bread, many recipes just don't work. Was it too wet perhaps? Remember, humidity differs everywhere. Out west I never had a problem with dryness because it's like a rain forest. Here I have to add way more liquid.

  5. I'm going to try your onion buns recipe in my machine next ;o) My husband would love those as he always ordered the "Onion Bagel" from Tim Horton's when we were in Canada and would probably love an onion bun with your recommended pastrami and mustard :)
